Treorchy Comprehensive School
The aim of the trip was to see how Science is linked to the world of work. The pupils were given a very warm welcome and after attending a mini lecture they were then given a tour of the sewage plant.

Pupils were able to see the sewage water enter the inlet channels and also the various settlement tanks. Pupils learnt about the various stages involved in the treatment of sewage and how we get clean, fresh water for drinking etc.

In addition to the above, they were also encouraged to think about water wastage and how much water we actually consume in one day. A person in Africa has to walk two hours each way, carrying 20litre buckets of water every day, just to get fresh water. So next time you are cleaning your teeth for two minutes with the water running – how many litres of water are you literally wasting down the drain?
