Treorchy Comprehensive School

Treorchy Comprehensive School becomes the first Sport and Dance Leadership Academy in Wales

We are delighted to announce that Treorchy Comprehensive School has been selected to be one of Wales’s first schools to be recognised for its hard work and commitment to developing the Leadership skills of their pupils. The variety of Leadership courses in Sport and Dance delivered throughout the school as part of the Physical Education programme has had a strong impact on the positive attitudes, motivation and enthusiasm to engage with the community.

Sportsleaders UK will be working alongside the PE department as they implement their new status of becoming a hub for professional development and sharing sector leading practice with other schools, on how to transform pupils from the age of 14 – 19 into confident, inspirational and trust worthy leaders within school and the community.

The pupils have the opportunity to develop their skills and gain extra Level 1 and 2 qualifications in Sport and Dance within KS4 & 5 programmes of study. They have fantastic opportunities to teach the younger pupils from the primary cluster group in a variety of sports whilst being positive role models and highlighting the importance of exercise being a vital aspect of everyday life.

For the past 5 years the Sport and Dance leaders have organised and ran their own extra-curricular clubs in our primary schools, E3 community classes and assisted in the running of extra-curricular clubs at Treorchy Comprehensive School. More recently the leaders have played an integral part in the success of the PESS Olympic celebration of sport week held at TCS which saw Year 1 – Year 6 pupils from our feeder primary schools participate in a week of activities and games, organised and led by the TCS leaders.

Congratulations to the 65 Sport and Dance leaders who have qualified this year. If you enjoy working with younger children of the school and are interested in becoming a Sport or Dance leader please see a member of the PE department.
